[00:00] NASA PAO: Gemini Control here again. Earlier in the flight you'll recall, at the start of the second revolution, we had a reference to several objects that the crew spotted. [00:13] NASA PAO: This was in the area of Antigua. Due to a mechanical breakdown we did not have that portion of the tape available for you. [00:24] NASA PAO: This was a line breakdown between Building 30 and our new center, Building 6. [00:31] NASA PAO: Since then we have dubbed the tape off the master tape here in the Control Center, and we are now prepared to play it for you. [00:42] NASA PAO: It contains references to sightings, not only of some particles but also of an unidentified object, plus the booster. Here's that tape — we'll play it for you now. [00:58] Houston: Gemini 7, are you reading? [Borman:] Loud and clear. [Houston:] 7, go ahead. [Borman:] We have a bogey here at 10 o'clock high. [01:12] Houston: This is Houston, say again, 7. [Borman:] We have a bogey at 10 o'clock high. [Houston:] Roger. [01:27] Houston: Do you have any— 7, is that the booster, or is that an actual sighting? [01:37] Borman: I, what? [01:39] Houston: Say again, 7. [01:42] Borman: Okay, we have several — looks like a bogey up there, actual sighting. [01:47] Houston: Do you have any more information, estimated distance or size? [01:52] Borman: We also have the booster in sight. [01:55] Houston: Understand you also have the booster in sight, roger. [01:58] Borman: We have very, very many — looks like hundreds of little particles going by on the left, about 3 to 4 miles. [02:13] Houston: Understand you have many small particles going by on the left, at what distance? [02:21] Borman: I don't know, I don't know. It looks like [unintelligible] passing a vehicle into the [unintelligible]. [02:30] Houston: Roger, I understand they're about 3 to 4 miles away. [02:33] Borman: [unintelligible]. Are you going to [unintelligible] a little bit? [02:37] Houston: Roger, I understand they were about 3 to 4 miles away. [02:41] Borman: [unintelligible], go further. [02:45] Houston: Roger. [02:56] Houston: Gemini 7, Houston. Were these particles in addition to the booster and the bogey at 10 o'clock high? [03:06] Borman: Yes. [03:09] Houston: Roger. [03:10] Borman: Gemini 7, Houston, this is 7. [03:13] Houston: Go ahead. [03:14] Crew: I have the booster on my side, a brilliant body [in] the sun, just a black background, and there's the particles around it. [03:24] Houston: Roger, what direction is it from you? [03:27] Crew: It's about the 2 o'clock position. [03:32] Houston: Does that mean it's ahead of you? [03:36] Crew: The sun is ahead of us at 2 o'clock, slowly tumbling. [03:40] Houston: Roger. The reference in that conversation to the third unidentified object — or the third object — was a bogey. There were several references to the bogey. [05:41] NASA PAO: This is the unidentified object, in addition to particles which appear to be headed in a polar orbit, you heard Frank Borman say, plus Jim Lovell discussing the booster.
